Winter Droving 2020

28th - 31st October 2020

The Winter Droving 2020

The annual town celebration that is the Winter Droving has to be different this year due to the impact of Covid-19. However that doesn't mean that we just give up and do nothing.

Perhaps more than ever we should be celebrating our place and community and businesses, showing that we are still vibrant and active.

So we are doing various things around the town to coincide with the Winter Droving time - things that enhance the town but don't get everyone to come at once.

We are pleased to be able to bring you news about plans for this years Winter Droving

St Andrews Churchyard Projections

A celebratory feature taking place in St Andrews Churchyard across four nights in October half term.

A colourful projection display featuring members of the Winter Droving community intertwined with footage from the Winter Droving past events.

To see the projections you must book an entry timeslot, these will be available to book soon.

We are looking for people in Penrith & Eden who bring a smile to peoples faces through acts of kindness or care to feature in this celebratory light projection in Penrith. We know thousands of you will fit the brief!

Nominating someone can be for something as little as the neighbour who always keeps the weeds in check, a child who always says hello to their elderly neighbour or someone who has done great things with a wider impact. So if you know the perfect caring host, a key worker who never fails to put a smile on your face, someone who cares in the local community, for the environment or its animals then we want to hear from you!

This celebratory work will take place across four nights in October half term and we are looking to feature members of our Winter Droving community with and without their masks as part of the projection display. Participants will be photographed by socially distanced appointment in late September. We welcome your nominations for this special (socially distanced) projected light piece.

Mask Time

A public art gallery will be scattered throughout Penrith Town Centre, with shop windows transformed into a photographic display of Droving supporters in homemade, highly sought after, and bespoke masks and fancy dress, giving the town a flavour of the usual festival fun.

Each year the streets of Penrith & Pooley Bridge are transformed by people wearing amazing masks and fancy dress. This year The Winter Droving would like to photograph those masks and the people wearing them to feature in a photographic display on shop windows throughout Penrith from mid October.

We are looking for the best masks, the best looks, the people who show off the Droving at its strangest and best. Send us a picture of yourself, you and your significant other or your family group all wearing Winter Droving masks and perhaps even costumes. The more outrageous, animal like, feathery, furry, glittery the better.... If you are selected you will then be asked to come and be professionally photographed in a socially distanced manner at Eden Arts near the end of September.
